About Our Firm

Susan J. Szwed, P.A. was established in 1990 with a base of clients needing assistance with the collection of past-due accounts. As the need has arisen, the capabilities of the firm have expanded into related areas. We are proficient in all aspects of creditors' rights, ranging from consumer default to contested foreclosures on large commercial properties, secured transactions, and creditors' bankruptcy representation.

Collections are the mainstay of our practice; we take it very seriously.

There are two stages to every case—pre-judgment (proving liability and the amount of the damages) and post-judgment (seeking assets and proving to the Court that our client is entitled to those assets).

Creditors do not get the results unless success is obtained at both stages. We take the real result our clients hope to achieve—collection—and make that the focus of our practice.

At the same time, we do not harass, we do not intimidate. Using cutting-edge tools, we work in a dignified and polite manner with people who, for various reasons, have failed to pay our clients.

Our intent is to keep the focus of the firm relatively narrow in order to serve our clients in the most knowledgeable and cost-effective manner possible. We know when to push our adversary to the limit to maximize recovery.

This firm has had long-standing memberships in the Commercial Law League of America, National Association of Retail Collection Attorneys, Maine State Bar Association and the Massachusetts Bar Association. We participate in The General Bar, Columbia Law List, International List and The National List.
